Job Description:
- To plan, manage & implement best agronomy measures for producing quality crop, delivering & supporting the Product strategy for achieving smoke differentiation and superiority
- To administer & provide viable initiatives keeping in view the complexity of the situation based on geographical / operational diversity and future risks associated with agrochemicals and heavy metals.
- To provide the company a strategic competitive edge over the competition through delivering proactive & cost effective solutions on leaf quality and productivity
- To keep abreast & enhance the skill base of the field team commensurate with the changing requirements owing to the global innovations & best agronomic practices proactively.
- To embed the group policy of seed sourcing as per the global guidelines while creating a varietal portfolio for local Leaf team.
- Identify and recommend best Agronomic practices, in-line with SRTP Programme, for implementation by the Head of Growing’s to improve quality, reduce cost of production thereby supporting the Leaf strategy to sustain the price to farmers at optimum level.
- Ensure timely availability of recommended farm inputs from various sources and suppliers at competitive prices.
- Promote crop sustainability through working with all key stakeholders.
- Develop a robust irrigation water planning, strategy and actionable programme for tobacco business continuity.
- Guiding and provision of all technical inputs related to IPM best practices, Scouting & Threshold levels, Approved Products, Usage Levels, GRLs and Residues.
- Technical guidance / recommendations / Best Practices related to CPA Use, GTS and re-entry times after CPA application.
- Manage environment friendly cropping culture through integration of FFS with integrated crop management
- Managing relevant portion of Quail databases, updating centre regularly on different reports and sharing results with the leaf team.
- Development & management of strategies related to Soil and Water issues emerging from complexities of soil & water laws and regulations.
- Facilitate recruitment at all levels focusing on talent hunt with a long-term perspective of business continuity.
- Develop strategies to promote and lead Carbon / Climate Change initiatives (including emission surveys and fertilizer sourcing) in leaf.
- Deliver innovative solutions to current and future potential challenges.
- Explore avenues of tobacco expansion for production of flavour / filler style FCV to meet the challenge of limitations in existing areas.
- Find sustainable alternate fuel sources and methods of energy conservation to reduce pressures from wood fuel and tobacco cost of production.
